Valerie: Daughter of the Dragon is the
pulse-pounding debut of Indie author Robert S. Fuller’s Valerie Trilogy. While
collaborating on a fashion show, Samantha Hammond, a forty-year old Display
Manager, draws the amorous attention of the mysterious clothing designer
Valerie Ross. Samantha’s journey of self-discovery takes her from the security
of her hometown to the shores of a secluded paradise, where forbidden desires
and dangerous obsessions are ignited. As their relationship flourishes,
Samantha learns that Valerie harbors a terrifying secret. The revelation
thrusts Samantha into a nightmarish world where vampires and witches dwell, not
just in the dark, but around every corner. Pamela Darius, a murderous vampire
adversary from Valerie’s past, uses Samantha, and those around her as pawns in
a deadly game filled with seduction, pain, betrayal, and death. Every turn of
the page manages to ratchet up the suspense.
Valerie caresses Samantha’s hands and gently probes her thoughts
attempting to read if the feeling is mutual. Valerie’s answer comes from
Samantha’s lips rather than her mind as she impulsively leans close and
tenderly kisses Valerie. The electricity in their lips causes Samantha to
tremble with excitement.
Samantha’s mind reels as a sudden rush of wanton desire courses
through her body beginning at her feet and ending at her head and touching
every place in between. Valerie’s body is like a magnet that inexplicitly draws
Samantha towards it. Samantha’s mind ceases to be under her control and she
relinquishes all thought and strives to exist in one moment. A flame of searing
need and lust engulfs her.
Reluctantly, Valerie pushes Samantha away
letting go of her hands. Samantha pants breathlessly as a wave of shame and
guilt washes over her forcing her to look down at the floor. Valerie brushes a
strand of hair from Samantha’s face. Samantha looks up when she feels Valerie’s
cool hand caressing her enflamed cheek. Samantha instinctively leans the weight
of her face onto Valerie’s hand as the coolness soothes her flushed face.
“I’m sorry…,” Samantha begins, but is cut of by Valerie placing her
index finger over Samantha’s lips silencing her.
“Don’t apologize. There’s much we need to discuss before we let
ourselves take this any further. I have to leave,” Valerie says as she stands,
gathers her coat and scarf, and walks to the door. She turns back to face
Samantha who has followed her to the door.
“If you still desire it, I promise there will other times,” Valerie
says leaning forward and placing a soft kiss upon Samantha’s quivering lips.
The flame that Samantha had extinguished when Valerie pushed her away roars
back to life again. Their lips brush together once more as Samantha’s knees
nearly give out.
“There is so much we can
learn and teach each other if our minds are open,”
Valerie whispers into Samantha’s thoughts as she allows their lips to mingle
for a second longer.
Valerie draws back grinning as she looks at the contented look on
Samantha’s face. She opens the door allowing the night air to rush in before
nodding her goodbye and closing the door behind her. Samantha collapses against
the door, her chest heaving as her heart pounds out of control. She places her
hand over her mouth in an attempt to hold onto the coolness of Valerie’s kiss.
She imagines that this is some sort of dream, but the taste of Valerie’s lips
on her own proves otherwise.
She slides down the door until she is sitting on the floor with her
back against the door. She thinks about the kiss and how it felt unlike any she
has felt in a long time. She licks her lips and realizes that she is acting
like a schoolgirl floating on a cloud. Her head begins to ache as the blood
rushes to her temples making them throb with her beating heart.
She looks around the room as it begins to spin slightly. She
convinces herself that her headache is the product of too much alcohol and the
sudden rush of emotions swirling around inside of her. She has no idea that the
actual reason for her dizziness is Valerie unlinking their minds. The
lightheadedness passes quickly.
“Sleep well, my love,” Valerie’s voice whispers in of Samantha’s thoughts. It becomes the
last thought she has before stretching out on the living room floor, closing
her eyes, and falling asleep with the feeling of Valerie’s lips seductively
brushing hers.

I can't wait to read this book!!
ReplyDeleteFinally made time after the busy holidays to start reading this book and now I can't put it down! Very enjoyable and captured my attention right away. I love a book that grabs me and takes me away from it all. Can't wait to see what's in the next chapter!
ReplyDeleteFor being an occasional reader who takes forever to finish a book, imagine my surprise when I couldn't put this book down. I felt like I was part of the story and truly believed the characters were part of my world. When I finished the book, there was a sense of "I need to know more". Seriously, take a moment and pick this book up and let yourself go to another time and place. You will find yourself waiting for the next book in this series too!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work Rob...
ReplyDeleteI was very sceptical to initially read this book as "fantasy" is not really my genre. However I wasnt pleasantly pleased and drawn into the story of Samantha and Valerie. It was hard to put down and really leaves you wanting more. The ending was a surprising twist and now I can't wait for the next book. I kept seeing a movie in my head while reading this. I am sure once word gets around about this book, it will eventually be a great movie also.
