With the Jack the Ripper murders next on the agenda, a bloodbath seems inevitable.

With the clock ticking and the killer becoming increasingly frenzied, a detective and criminal psychologist join forces to stop this unlikely killer.

Another Story Behind the Book with Willa Enaughty, dwards

Where did the idea for this story come from?
I had the idea of characters writing down their dream attributes in a significant other for quite a while, stemming back to when Oprah described ‘The Secret’ on her show (don’t worry, she gets a nod in the book). She talked about how writing down and making lists of what you want can help bring that to you, by focusing your energy and honing your positive thoughts. But when I first heard it I couldn’t find the right characters and setting for this idea. Until I read a submission call for Christmas stories and the ideas clicked together. What better time to make a wish list of all you want in Mr. Right than Christmas time, when we’re already making lists for everything we want Santa to bring us.

Fortunately, Callie’s list takes a different turn than Oprah intended, or even the rest of her friends write down.

How did your characters come to life?

My characters came to life when I realized how Eric finds Callie’s naughty Christmas List. Only really good friends could have such a bet to see who could get the best present for the other or could know each other well enough to pull off such a bet. After realizing how great friends they were, how long they’d been in love with each other without making a move and what kept them apart, the rest just fell into place.

New Release: Appalachian Justice, Melinda Clayton

Billy May Platte is a half Irish, half Cherokee Appalachian woman who learned the hard way that 1940s West Virginia was no place to be gay. As Billy May explains, "We was sheltered in them hills. We didn't know much of nothin' about life outside of them mountains. I did not know the word lesbian; to us, gay meant havin' fun and queer meant somethin' strange." In 1945, when Billy May was fourteen years old and orphaned, three local boys witnessed an incident in which Billy May's sexuality was called into question. Determined to teach her a lesson she would never forget, they orchestrated a brutal attack that changed the dynamics of the tiny coal mining village of Cedar Hollow, West Virginia forever.
Thirty years after the brutal attack, living in solitude on top of Crutcher Mountain, Billy May discovers the hideout of a young girl.  No one knows better than Billy May the telltale signs of abuse, and she must quickly make a decision. Will she withdraw into the solitude in which she has lived since the horrific attack, or will she risk everything to save the girl from a similar fate?
Billy May tells us her story in her own words, as she lays dying in a hospice in Huntington, West Virginia in the spring of 2010. "From the top of my mountain, I seen that girl runnin'," she remembers, "and I understood even then that my decisions might very well be the death of me."

Tidbit From Author Melinda Clayton:
I'm an odd mix of psychotherapist and writer who has always loved to read, and who has always loved to explore the motivations behind the choices we make. I try to give my characters depth, and to demonstrate the thought process behind the decisions they make.
Appalachian Justice is my first novel, and it's dark, no doubt. But it's also a tribute to the many brave women and children with whom I've connected over the years through my therapy practice. They have my deepest, deepest respect and admiration.

Another Story Behind the Book with Keith Madson

Keith Madson: www.keithmadsen.com

Genre: Inspirational Thriller/Romance

Buy link: http://www.clublighthousepublishing.com/

Where did the idea for this story come from?

Primarily from my experience as a pastor working with people who have lost loved ones. I started out writing a story about a man who lost a teenage daughter to cancer, and then started thinking about the biblical story of the land where there was no death. What would happen if this bereaved man went out trying to find it?

How did your characters come to life?

I started out with some basic concepts of who my characters were. Evan Jordan was a college professor whose wife had died from alcoholism. Now his daughter, all he had left, was dying of cancer. How would he cope? before her death she shows an interest in the story of the Garden of Eden, a place where there was no death and life was good. After her death he goes on a quest to find this Garden. He is joined in the quest by a beautiful archaeologist, with whom he develops a romantic relationship. But she takes a scientific approach to the idea of the Garden, and is skeptical about romance, having been in an abusive marriage. He is also joined in the quest by Carmen, a Hispanic prostitute who is seeking to regain her innocense (she was going to be a peripheral character, but she came to life and changed my mind!) ; BehnAm, an Iranian archaeologist seeking to free his country from corruption; and Afsaneh, a young Iranian woman who kills her Iranian rapist. All are seeking a world that is better than the reality they face. Their characters came alive through their reactions to each other. I never try to predetermine what my characters will be doing throughout a story.

Blurb of your book

When all you have ever loved is lost, where do you go to find if life can be good again? For Evan Jordan, searching for that answer takes him through some of the most war-torn areas of the world…to Eden.
