Why Don't They Come With Instructions? is a collection of personal essays about the triumphs and troubles of parenting special needs children and how it inspired a non-profit organization. Jan's two have had difficulties at school, trouble making friends, irrational fears, crazy nervous behaviors and full blown meltdowns. She and her husband were puzzled about how to help the children. She wrote this book for parents who struggle with raising special children and hopes to offer some measure of comfort to those who read it.

Tidbit From Jan: 

Jan loves to travel her wanderlust has taken her on adventures in Europe, swimming with dolphins and on many camel rides. She has a master’s degree in Health Education and undergraduate degrees in healthcare. Aside from writing her favorite things include art (fiber art, drawing, painting and stained glass), people watching, photography, comedy, cooking , teas of all kinds (she owned a Tea Room), crab legs, dark chocolate, finding/collecting/selling unique antiques and collectibles and spending time at home on their 1946 62-ft motorboat with her husband, two children and bouncy long-coat Chihuahua, Princess.

Jan’s next projects include a series of books on Farmers Markets and eating locally titled: Connecting Food, Farm & You: 40 Farmers Markets in 40 Days and a memoir on growing up with undiagnosed Aspergers – about self-discovery, acceptance and learning to follow dreams.
