Where did the idea for this story come from?
I had the idea of characters writing down their dream attributes in a significant other for quite a while, stemming back to when Oprah described ‘The Secret’ on her show (don’t worry, she gets a nod in the book). She talked about how writing down and making lists of what you want can help bring that to you, by focusing your energy and honing your positive thoughts. But when I first heard it I couldn’t find the right characters and setting for this idea. Until I read a submission call for Christmas stories and the ideas clicked together. What better time to make a wish list of all you want in Mr. Right than Christmas time, when we’re already making lists for everything we want Santa to bring us.
Fortunately, Callie’s list takes a different turn than Oprah intended, or even the rest of her friends write down.
How did your characters come to life?
My characters came to life when I realized how Eric finds Callie’s naughty Christmas List. Only really good friends could have such a bet to see who could get the best present for the other or could know each other well enough to pull off such a bet. After realizing how great friends they were, how long they’d been in love with each other without making a move and what kept them apart, the rest just fell into place.

Hey, Willia - Your book sounds wonderful. Can't wait to read. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you and, ultimately, Opra that what you believe you draw to you. Believe something good.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting blog.
I wish you the very best, Willa.

What a great inspiration for the story!
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, Willa, I had my check list of wants in my potential mate before I ever met him. When I finally met the guy that could tick every box off my list, I married him quick! The love of my life started from a list. :)
ReplyDeleteWilla! Very best of luck on your new release. I love how you shared the story behind the creation of Eric and Callie. Best wishes.
